ORLANDO — PEOPLE’s UNEMPLOYMENT LINE
On Thursday, June 18, One Fair Wage co-founder Fekkak Mamdouh and a team of volunteers hosted the first People’s Unemployment Line in Orlando, Florida — to distribute emergency cash assistance to unemployed service workers while highlighting the lack of safety net and safety protections for our communities.
More than 60 unemployed workers waited six feet apart in the hot mid-day sun to either collect their One Fair Wage Emergency Fund support or apply to the fund.
And they also signed petitions to Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Florida state legislators demanding structural fixes to the state unemployment system and paid sick leave, enforced safety protocols, PPE and One Fair Wage with tips on top when service workers return to work.
